An All Around “Good” Time
September 1st, 2010

On September 10th from 6-11pm Fashion’s Night Out kicks off nearly every fashionista’s favorite season in NYC: the fall. At Steven Alan, we’re looking to have a good ol’ time for a good cause.

For the event we are teaming up with Goods for Good (G4G), a non-profit organization matching excess goods with the needs of orphans and vulnerable children in Malawi. Goods for Good provides basic educational supplies, clothing and hygiene products to under-resourced communities to ensure that every child has the opportunity to achieve. 20% of the proceeds from purchases of special items featured at our Tribeca store this evening will benefit G4G’s Tailor-in-Training program ,which provides surplus fabric to vocational tailoring programs that create school uniforms for children who would otherwise go without. Speaking of turning the old anew, one of our very own featured items will be the anniversary reverse seam shirts made from exclusive fabrics and patterns from within the SA archives.

Designers in addition to Steven Alan joining in the event are Geren Ford, Soludos, Land candles, Cardigan, and more. They too will be highlighting special items from each of their collections to benefit Goods for Good that night, but if you cannot make your way down to our downtown shop, do not fret! These items will also be available on our website. Part of the proceeds from online purchases made from September 10-18th will still benefit Goods for Good.

Let’s face it. How many times have we heard the terms eco-chic and green fashion thrown about in the past few years? Perhaps a bit too much. And certainly in NYC and Brooklyn, eco-fashion has earned somewhat of a trendy and meaningless rep as of late.  The fashion industry accounts for sales of over $250 billion in the United States alone. For one night the far-reaching impact of fashion will not only be seen in annual revenue, but also in the agency fashion places in the hands of the consumer, where your purchase will make a difference you can see. The Tribeca Steven Alan store and windows will feature a display of the school uniforms made by G4G’s Tailor-in-Training program along with pictures and stories of the children it benefits.

Money well spent, goods well traded for children well-learned. So come by, have a few cocktails, groove to some music as you make some good while looking good.
