Yumiko Sekine started her first business in 1993 curating used books and housewares from Europe and America to import in Japan. During her ventures for new products, she searched for every day linens she remembered using during childhood. She was disappointed to find there were no linen products available for every day use and so she decided to go to the source. She visited Lithuania, a country that grows flax to spin into linen and has been producing and exporting linen products since the Middle Ages. After meeting several producers in Lithuania she became inspired to design her own collection of linens and have them produced there.
Her first collection began with only seven items. Now after ten years, Fog Linen Work produces a large assortment of linens ranging from clothing to products for the home. Sekine is inspired by the natural lifestyle trends of Japan, creating products to enhance daily life through a simple yet beautiful aesthetic.
