sunburst diamond ring
Satomi was born and raised in Japan. While growing up, she was strongly influenced by her dress-maker mother, who made most of her clothes when she was a little girl. Satomi became fascinated by design and the act of creating. This passion led her to Saga Art College in Kyoto, Japan, where she studied wood, metal, clay and textile design. During her studies, she encountered glass-blowing, and after graduation, she worked for the glass artist Takeshi Tsujino. After a couple of years, the glass studio closed its doors and Satomi decided to move to NYC to fulfill a longtime dream of studying abroad. She enrolled in jewelry making at Studio Jewelers and after graduation she worked as a diamond setter under the master setter Richard Scandaglia in NYC’s diamond district. As a diamond setter she worked with diamonds, gold and platinum metals every day, but she never found gold jewelry that she wanted to wear herself. One day she decided to make herself a ring, a thin gold band dotted here and there with tiny diamonds. She had never seen a ring with diamonds set randomly across the band... neither had her friends who began to place orders. And that's how her collection began.
All Satomi Kawakita jewelry is handmade in house at her Manhattan studio. Each piece is crafted with her unique sense of organic beauty and special attention is given to even the smallest of details. Back To Product View All From This Designer
